Springfield Township Fire Department members received an Achievement in Excellence Award from the Oakland County Medical Control Authority for their outstanding work on a difficult call earlier this year. This well-deserved recognition is just one example of the remarkable dedication, professionalism, and teamwork displayed by our Department members each and every day in their service to our community.
STFD Provides Advanced Life Support Services
Until late 2021, STFD had been operating as a Basic Life Support, non-transporting department. However, the transition to operating fully as an Advanced Life Support (ALS) department is now complete. More information about the transition process can be found here.

Burn Permits
Springfield Township residents are required to have a burn permit for any open burning other than campfires. You can now register for an annual burning permit which is valid for the current calendar year. There is no cost for the permit. You can register online by visiting springfield.burnpermit.us or by visiting Station # 2 during regular business hours. Once registered, call the automated phone system at 248-923-4169 on days you wish to burn.
Once registered, you will call an automated phone system to notify the Fire Department of days you wish to burn.
Prescribed Burn Permits
For landowners, contractors, organizations and units of government seeking a burn permit to perform a prescribed broadcast burn for ecological, agricultural or forestry practices in Springfield Township, please apply for a permit using the Prescribed Burn Permit Application. Please call Fire Headquarters at 248-625-6699 during business hours with any questions.
Equipment
The Springfield Township Fire Department is equipped to handle a wide range of fire, medical and other emergencies. Your Firefighters bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to bear on calls for help in Springfield Township. Cross-trained Firefighter/EMTs/Paramedics are also trained for a wide variety of specialized response including ice rescue, hazardous materials and technical rescue.

- Medic 1 – 2023 Ford E450 advanced Life Support Transport Vehicle
- Brush 1 - 1972 Jeep CJ5 with a 10 gpm pump carrying 50 gallons of water (owned by DNR)
- Engine 1 – 2023 Sutphen Engine with a 1500 gpm pump and carrying 1000 gallons of water
- Tanker 1 - 2011 International Firovac tanker with a 1,000 gpm pump carrying 3,000 gallons of water
- Medic 2 - 2019 Ford E450 advanced Life Support Transport Vehicle
- Brush 2 - 2017 Ford F350 grass/wildland fire fighting skid in the bed 75 gpm pump and 250 gallons of water (Federal Grant Funded)
- Car 1 - 2018 Ford F150 Chief's vehicle
- Car 2 - 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe Command Vehicle
- Engine 2 - 2023 Sutphen Engine with a 1500 gpm pump and carrying 1000 gallons of water
- Tanker 2 - 2018 International Firovac tanker with a 1,000 gpm pump carrying 3,000 gallons of water
- Utility 1 - 2009 GMC Sierra Support unit
- Rescue 1 - 2002 Pierce Rescue/Pumper with a 1,250 gpm pump carrying 500 gallons of water, this unit also carries a variety of rescue and vehicle extrication equipment
- Engine 3 – 2023 Sutphen Engine with a 1500 gpm pump and carrying 1000 gallons of water
- Engine 4 -2006 KME custom cab 1,250 gpm pump carrying 1,000 gallons of water (reserve engine)
- Tanker 3 – 2008 International US tanker 1,000 gpm pump carrying 2,100 gallons of water
- Bravo 393 - 2003 Ford E-450 Basic Life Support Transport Vehicle
